Nair, the popular hair removal cream, comes with a strong smell, but how can you get rid of that smell from your skin? Here are some effective ways to do so.
Baking soda
Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with three tablespoons of water to create a paste. Apply it over your skin and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse with cool water. If you don’t have baking soda handy, try washing with a mixture of 1/2 cup white vinegar and two cups water. Repeat as necessary until no scent remains.
Lemon Juice
A great way to get rid of Nair smell is using lemon juice. Simply wash off any remaining chemicals and then apply a couple drops of lemon juice directly onto your skin. Let it sit for 30 seconds and rinse with warm water. It should be free from Nair smells after!
Rubbing Alcohol
To help get rid of Nair smell, rub some isopropyl rubbing alcohol (or your favorite scented alcohol) all over your skin once you’re done waxing. The alcohol will disinfect your skin and neutralize any remaining Nair chemical left on your body. It may sting a little bit but that’s normal—just wait for it to dry before putting clothes back on!
Hydrogen Peroxide
If you use hydrogen peroxide, you can neutralize it by dabbing a bit of baking soda onto your skin. Be sure to rinse with water after. This method won’t affect your hair color, because hydrogen peroxide only lightens hair that has not been colored previously.
Activated Charcoal
This odor-absorbing, skin-soothing solution is a must for every bathroom cabinet. Simply soak a cotton pad in it and sweep it over your body. Since it’s charcoal, you’ll also get an exfoliating benefit from using it, which helps minimize pores as well. You can even put some in your face scrub for added benefit! Just make sure to rinse off any residue after applying—your sheets will thank you.
Vinegar
If you’re using a product that contains aluminum, vinegar is one way to get rid of Nair smell. Soak your hands in white vinegar for about 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. This method isn’t suitable for all skin types—it may sting or irritate some individuals, so if you know it won’t work for you, don’t do it. But if vinegar doesn’t give you any negative reactions, go ahead and use it!
Mustard
If you’re trying to get rid of nair smell on your skin, you can use a lotion with gentle exfoliating properties or something like mustard. Apply mustard generously and leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing it off and continuing with your usual post-depilatory routine. Don’t worry, if it gets in your eyes—it won’t hurt that bad!
Apple Cider Vinegar (and baking soda)
Apple cider vinegar has many amazing skincare benefits, and using it is an excellent way to neutralize Nair odor. It’s especially effective when you mix it with baking soda, which creates a chemical reaction that breaks down and neutralizes unpleasant smells. To use: Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and baking soda into a paste, then apply it generously all over your body (including underarms). Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off.
