Carpet that smells like weed oil can be very troublesome, especially if you live in an apartment complex or any other area where your neighbors might report you to building managers and the police. If you’ve been lucky enough to live in an apartment without carpeted floors, then you may not realize how much of a hassle it can be to get the smell of weed out of carpeting. The good news, however, is that there are several effective ways to do so without having to replace all your flooring.

Step 1: Prepare to remove Marijuana stain from carpet

To properly remove a Marijuana stain from your carpet, you will need some vinegar and a spoon. The amount of vinegar you will need depends on how big your stain is and how strong it smells. Fill up a bowl with 2 parts vinegar to 1 part warm water and mix well. Dampen a towel or sponge with your vinegar solution and blot at the weed oil stain on your carpet until it disappears into it. If that doesn’t work, repeat until weed oil is no longer visible on your carpet.

Step 2: Use your vacuum cleaner to pick up any loose residue

If you smell an intense odor coming from your carpet, chances are there’s a fair amount of residue that you may not be able to see. Put on some gloves and start vacuuming—but be careful, as residue might get stuck in your vacuum cleaner!

Step 3: Fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is a mild solvent that will lift and dissolve weed oil. Simply fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol, spray directly onto affected carpet and allow it to sit for at least five minutes before blotting it up with a clean cloth or sponge. You may also use an absorbent powder, like cornstarch or baking soda. However, blotting is faster than scrubbing because we want to avoid overworking or marring your carpet fibers.

Step 4: Spray the alcohol onto the affected area

Pour some rubbing alcohol onto a clean towel. Lightly dab it onto your carpet’s surface, covering an area about three inches around where you applied oil. Let it set for several seconds before blotting with a dry towel. Repeat as needed until your carpet is relatively stain-free.

Step 5: Let it dry completely before you vacuum

Depending on how much cannabis oil you spilled, it could take several hours for your carpet and upholstery to fully dry. This time also gives any residual cannabis oil a chance to break down and become less potent. If you have a fan at your disposal, feel free to use it—your carpet is sure to appreciate all the drying help it can get!
